Refill, HALFSLEEVE, BACKWOODS & LO-FI COLLECTIVE are proud to present ‘Shake That Ass’ by Yone.
Yasumasa ‘Yone’ Yonehare is undoubtedly one of the most dynamic and influential magazine editors and photographers in Japan.
During the 90s Yonehara’s work with the iconic Egg Magazine was instrumental in the emergence of ‘kogyaru’ (Japanese schoolgirl) culture into the global consciousness.
Yonehara’s signature ‘lo-fi sexy’ photographic style was established though a collection of erotic Fujifilm ‘cheki’ shots for Smart Girls with some of Tokyo’s hottest models. The unprecedented success of his first book, a folio of these Smart Girl portraits, bestowed him instant fame.
It was at this point that Yonehara’s sphere of influence became global, with brands such as American Apparel ‘appropriating’ his unique photographic style for use in advertising campaigns. A new genre of editorial photography was born, founded on Yonehara’s instant Polaroid style.
In 2007 Yonehara launched the online publication cexwork.com which blends erotic art with blogs by influential photographers, friends and tastemakers from around the world.
Yone has spent recent years exploring themes of eroticism, continuity within discontinuity and the power of repetition in a series of acclaimed photographic exhibition.
A Creative Director sought by fashion labels, music groups and advertising agencies around the world, Yonehara brings a unique aesthetic, vision and Japanese pop-culture sensibility to the world of art.
In September 2010 Lo-Fi Collective is honored to be hosting ‘Shake That Ass’ by Yasamasa Yonehara, an exhibition of original photography and installations.

In 1996, Andrew Kidman blindsided the surfing world with Litmus, a film made with a group of friends under the enigmatic collective name The Val Dusty Experiment. Raw and unpolished, it spoke volumes to surfers all over the world who felt removed from the amped up, high performance surf punk porn that flooded the market at the time. Rather than a commercial showcase, Litmus was born from the of love of the ocean and dared defy the monolithic surf industry through the simple words of Wayne Lynch – surfing’s not young anymore.
Since then Andrew Kidman has gone on to not only produce more movies (most notably the beautiful Glass Love in 2004), making him without a doubt one of the most influential Australian surf film makers of all time, but also equally touching photography, paintings, screen prints and music.
In 2007 he published the book Ether in limited release, a retrospective containing over 20 years of photographs, interviews, stories and art. He’s currently working on a new film project.

With his signing to Elefant Traks along with a variety of mixtapes, hit singles and a sophomore album dropping this year; he proves his skills both in the mic booth and in the ring. We take a minute with The Tongue between studio sessions and photo shoots to find out cures for hangovers and whats in stock for 2010.
Q: Best battle experience so far? A: Representing Australia in the Battle 4 Supremacy back in 2005. It feels great to compete for you country....even if it is in something as silly as an MC battle.
Q:Funniest thing you have seen in a battle? A: The year I won the Revolver MC Battle in Melbourne there was a guy competing who called himself The Fat C**T From Frankston...and he really was fat and he wore a business suit on stage. The next year he competed again and had lost 30kg....that year he entered as just The C**T From Frankston.
Q: Most memorable thing that’s happened at one of your shows? A: The Elefant Traks 10th Anniversary show at the Forum was just plain crazy. 1000 people going apeshit for an entire set...not an experience that is easily forgotten. Also getting to open for Public Enemy and then watch them do a 3 hour show from the side was stage was pretty surreal.
Q: Worst thing you've talked your way out of or best thing you've talked your way into ? A: The best thing I ever talked my way into....getting signed to Elefant Traks.
Q: Worst thing you've woken up to after a big night out? A: Myself.
Q: Best way to beat a hangover ? A: Water, fruit, sex, blunts.
Q: Will we be seeing a return of the blind man? A: No. But you will be seeing and hearing my second album when it drops this September. Its executive produced by El Gusto (Hermitude) and slams like LaBron James. In other words...I think your gonna like it.
